“Rohrflüsterer“ lokalisieren Leckstellen
Really enjoyed reading a local newspaper article from the Las Cruces Sun News yesterday - great headline! Echologics "the pipe whisperers" have signed a contract with Las Cruces Utilities to check for leaks in the water pipe. Not a small task considering the utility manages over 600 miles of aqueduct under the city's streets. The early detection of leaks not only prevents water loss, but also prevents costly infrastructure damage from obsolete pipelines.
I think the utilities chief operations engineer summed up the challenge very well. "Historically, detecting a water leak in an underground pipe has been impossible until there are surface signs such as damp spots on the ground or problems with the sidewalk above the pipes," said Stephen P. Zediak, PE, senior operations engineer, Las Cruces Utilities. "It's very expensive to break a road to see what happens to a buried pipe."
Echologics' non-invasive approach to leak detection identifies small leaks and our technology can also provide a measure of the remaining structural strength of the pipeline. Not only does the approach reduce the need to dig through streets to visually inspect or take samples from pipes, but it can result in savings of potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars for utilities and customers.
Las Cruces Utilities hired Echologics to inspect problematic areas of the city's main water infrastructure to help locate existing leaks.
It's always nice to see your own quote in print: "The Echologics approach and technology is non-invasive, there are no water shutdowns (a big plus for customers), and it's very affordable". This technology has become particularly important in parts of the country where periods of drought prevail.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in the project and for making this a success!
